Conscious Conversations
Conscious Conversation: Reflections on the Black Experience in Ghana brings together local leaders, culture shapers, and community members to explore how travel to Ghana shapes identity, purpose, and Diasporic connection. As Nashville prepares to welcome the Ambassador of Ghana for an official visit, this gathering creates space for reflection, storytelling, and collective imagination rooted in the African Diaspora. 🇺🇸 🇬🇭
A welcome reception will offer guests traditional drumming, dance, Ghanaian cuisine, and music inspired by DJ Braveheart's (Kimeo Smith) visit to Ghana. Guests are encouraged to wear cultural attire, though not required.
Following the reception, we'll move to the Roots Theater for musical performances by Ruby Amanfu, Esi and Jahwin, Ghanaian-American musicians rooted in Nashville.
A moderated panel conversation follows, featuring voices from Nashville who have traveled to Ghana and returned with new questions about leadership, community, and what the Diaspora can build together.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, proceeds from this event will benefit the Ghana Association of Middle Tennessee scholarship fund.

First Note: For The Love of R&B
Memphis’ emerging sound joins forces with Nashville’s, and NMAAM is capturing this unforgettable story on an unforgettable night.
The National Museum of African American Music and TappedIN 901 proudly present First Note: For the Love of R&B, a groundbreaking show created to magnify the musical connection between two of Tennessee’s creative hubs. Born from a simple but radical belief: emerging artists deserve more than a stage. They deserve a platform.
On October 24, NMAAM will become the epicenter of something new—a conduit bridging the soulful sound of Memphis with the harmony of Music City. Artists who are just writing their first chapters will share space with fans who feel it, industry executives who need to hear it, and a community of museum visitors who will carry those sounds far beyond these walls.
Memphis and Nashville share a story, and NMAAM is the home where the next chapter begins.
